Tourist and recreational cluster “European Baikal”
Unique freshwater pond - an ancient glacial Vishtynetskoye lake located in Nesterov district of Kaliningrad region, on the Russian-Lithuanian border. It is twice as old as the Baltic Sea; it is more than 20000 years old. Vishtynetskoye - the largest and deepest lake in the region: its area is more than 18 square km and a maximum depth is 54 meters.
Vishtynetskoye lake is called “European Baikal”. Lake surrounded by a famous Romintensk forest or red forest (from german Rominter Heide). From the days of the Teutonic Order, these places were famous for an abundance of birds and animals, and the hunt in Romintensk forest was very popular with the Prussian nobility.
This area is almost miraculously preserved in its original form: a dense majestic forests, picturesque hills buried in greenery. Vishtynets – is a unique ecosystem of Europe: there is no industrial production around the Romintensk forest.
